Bethesda has announced that Fallout 4’s first downloadable content will be available soon, along with a revamped survival mode.
We don’t yet know what the DLC will contain or how long it will last, but Bethesda’s previous games have offered everything from horse armour to 30-hour expansions. Presumably, the latter will be offered as part of the game’s $30 Season Pass.
The Broken Steel DLC for Fallout 3 extended the game beyond the ending but unlike that game, you can keep playing Fallout 4 after the game’s conclusion.
Bethesda announced the news about the game’s DLC on Twitter:
We know you’re ready to learn what’s coming for Fallout 4 DLC. We’re not far off, and we think you’ll be excited.

We’re also doing a complete overhaul of Fallout 4 Survival mode. Food, sleep, diseases, danger and more. Stay tuned.

Hopefully, we’ll know more about what to expect soon, especially as details of additional content was scarce when the game’s Season Pass was announced. Despite the $30 price tag, Bethesda has said the content will offer value of at least $40.
The game’s Creation Kit is set to be released early this year and mods have been promised for the console versions of the game since its announcement. Bethesda has also said that there will be regular free updates for the game based on fan feedback.
Fallout 4’s latest patch, version 1.3, was released this week and while it addressed some issues, and left other issues unaddressed. Robots can now be hacked at any distance and Dogmeat can still duplicate items.
Given that you’ve likely already spent a good deal of time exploring the ruins of Boston in the Commonwealth, picked one of the game’s four factions, and possibly completed more than one playthrough, it’s probably just as well new content is on its way.
