Oh EA, you so EA. As if Origin wasn’t a big enough problem for them it looks like they have another reason to be hated by the gaming community. Recently multiple users who had been banned from the EA forums for different reasons have been locked out of their EA games on top of their forum bans.
One user was banned from the forums for creating a thread on “teabaggingâ€, which is understandable. The user was then locked out of his Battlefield 3 account, he couldn’t even play offline; that seems rather unjust to me. When he contacted EA on the matter they apparently completely ignored him and refused to address the problem. I have to wonder if it was because of the subject matter for his forum ban. I once had a friend get banned from Xbox Live for “teabagging†(yeah, I guess that’s actually a thing that can happen) and when he contacted Microsoft they told him his ban was for, “excessive squattingâ€.
Another user named Rob was banned and given a “strike†as a part of EA’s “three strikes system. And what did Rob do to deserve this? Rob linked to his blog where he has a post to help players connect to BF3. This particular post had even been linked to by EA themselves, it could be found in their FAQs as well as their corporate site. EA told Rob he had been banned for posting a “commercial”. According to Rob he had no luck with the utterly useless live chat that EA provides.
Lastly we have James, who has one incredible tale that boggles my brains. James was on the forums and replied to someone who had used the term “e-peen†(e-peen is a shortened term for e-penis), all James had said was “Ah, back to the e-peen talk.†James was then banned for 72 hours for his use of the term. At least he thought he was sonly banned for 72 hours, on Saturday he was notified that he was permanently banned from Origin and that all his BF3 characters and data would be deleted. The email also told him that the matter was closed and would not be discussed any further.
If I had to guess, I’d venture to say that this won’t be the last time this happens either. EA has been getting a whole lot of negative press lately, you would think that they would be paying more attention and doing something about it. EA needs to just drop Origin, I know they want to make more money off their games but they’re going about it all wrong. Soon people are going to start dropping from Origin like flies. If EA would just go back to selling their games on Steam they would be looked at much more favorably and their business and image would be in far less danger.
