Modern Warfare 3 is out now – in case you have somehow missed every news post, Facebook message, tweet, poster, video and picture going – and while the vast majority of people seem to be either quietly enjoying the game or ignoring it, some people have to make their opinions known. Even if their opinions are based on nothing but a hate of anything popular and the oft-repeated complaints that the series has had for quite some time.
Nowhere is this more obvious than on Metacritic, where the userscore has plummeted to 2.2 on PS3, 2.8 on 360, 1.5 on PC and 0.8 on Wii.
My favourite complaint says that MW3 is so similar to its predecessor that it should have been an expansion pack for MW2, which he finishes by saying was also crap.
There are also plenty of people who gave 0/10 reviews after rushing out to buy the game at a midnight launch but who were somehow not expecting a game at all similar to Black Ops or Modern Warfare 3. This has led to people complaining that nothing at all has changed. It somewhat reminds me of that scene from Life of Brian: except for the single player, the new maps, the new perks, the new guns, the new levelling system, the new strike package system, split-screen online, the new game modes (kill confirmed is fun as hell), the new special ops missions, what have Sledgehammer really changed?!
Of course, that is always ended with the phrase "none of the new stuff interests me anyway."
Yup, the internet is a confusing place. Especially since the new buzzword seems to be "innovation."
