The release of the Horse Armor DLC in Oblivion became a huge source of complaint from fans of the game, who saw it as a quick way for Bethesda to cash in on otherwise meaningless content. The fact that the ability to alter horse armor was restricted in the game's editor—the TES Construction Set—for the sake of protecting the DLC, annoyed modders to no end.
Rather than having to endure the release of unnecessary add-ons, Bethesda has promised to release "bigger and more substantial" DLCs that "make the game better."
Speaking to Wired.com's Jason Schreier, Bethesda's Todd Howard said that the company's priorities will not be on putting out very quick DLC.
"We're not going to be doing a lot of it," he said. "Our high-level thinking is that there'll not be as many, but they'll be bigger and more substantial. The goal overall is not necesarily to put out more content, but to make the game better."
Howard says that players shouldn't expect to see the DLC so soon after the game's release, but that it will launch for the Xbox 360 before any other platform when it comes out. Skyrim is set for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
Gameranx's review of Skyrim will be out on the 10th.
