Go Behind the Scenes with Modern Warfare 3’s New Multiplayer Modes

November 1, 2011 by Josh Harmon

The most popular game in the world is poised to get even bigger with new game modes and the ability to tweak custom matches to your heart’s content.

Activision and Infinity Ward have released a new behind the scenes video showcasing thenew game types and increased customization on offer in Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer mode.

One of the biggest new additions is the Kill Confirmed game mode, a modified version of Team Deathmatch where enemies drop dog tags on death. While you'll still get XP for every kill you make, you won't actually be helping your team earn points unless you run over the body and grab the dog tags. If someone from the other team gets their first, they'll actually be able to deny your kill by yanking the dog tags right out from under your nose. Sorry, Snipers. Looks like you'll have to actually get off your bellies for a change.

Another new game mode is Team Defender, a hybrid of Capture the Flag and the King of the Hill-styled Domination mode. In Team Defender, the first person to go down will drop a flag. The objective is to ensure that your team holds onto that flag for as long as possible, meaning you'll need to defend your flag carrier at all costs and be sure you don't turn possession over to the other team.

Modern Warfare 3 will also support user-generated modes, enabling you to create custom matches that combine different rule sets, win limits, and gameplay options. Want to play Team Deathmatch without any perks, killstreak rewards, respawns or regenerating health? Totally doable with the robust new customization options. You'll even be able to share your creations with your friends through the Call of Duty Elite service.

Infinity Ward is also promising improved multiplayer map design that keeps the verticality of previous installments while toning down the long sight lines that make every courtyard a deathtrap and the experience from flowing smoothly.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launches on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC exactly one week from today on November 8.
