Current PSP owners waiting to buy a PSP Go would feel a bit hard done-by since they won’t be able to play their current UMD games on it. Sony Computer Entertainment America have confirmed that there will be no way to transfer existing UMD purchases to the new download-only PSP Go due to “legal and technical reasons“.
Sony has revealed a rewards scheme, for European PSP owners, which offers upto three games, from a list of 17, as free downloads to buyers of the new SKU.
The rewards system will run from October 1, 2009 to March 31, 2010 and will require PSPgo owners to register for their three free games by accessing the PlayStation Network with their older PSPs with a UMD in the drive.
The list of 17 includes Killzone: Liberation, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3, Daxtor, WipEout Pure, echochrome, LocoRoco, Patapon, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters and more.
PSP Go Rewards program will not be applicable in North America, according to SCEA.
