The highly anticipated action-RPG Forspoken has been delayed until January 24, 2023. While developers originally announced a release on PS5 and PC in October, it has been said that they will be pushing the date further back.
The publishers stated that the delay is due to “ongoing discussions with key partners,” Though the game elements have been completed and the game is in its final polishing stage, they believe this is a strategic move on their part. They stated that more updates on the game and its progression would come out later this summer.
The most interesting part of this announcement is the “strategic” portion, as the game was set to release alongside very heavily played titles such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, making it seem as though maybe they didn’t want the game to be released during such a heavily windowed time frame.
The publishers made it known they appreciate all of the support from their fans during this time, stating, “We would like to thank you for your continued support and patience on this journey. Your excitement for the game inspires up every day and we cannot wait to share more about Forspoken with you later this Summer!”.
The gameplay has been described as “a narrative-driven adventure” by Square Enix, where players take on the life of Frey. Players will unlock magic abilities and earn experience points, or XP, as they kill enemies throughout the game. Players can also upgrade Frey’s cloak to gain helpful stats and defeat more difficult enemies. The game even goes as far as to make the nail polish on Frey’s fingernails vital to success; when applied, it will unlock special abilities for Frey to use
The game will set players back $69.99 for the regular version and $94.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition and will be released on Steam, Epic Games, PlayStation, and the Microsoft store. While there have not been too many details released about this delay, there will be more reaching the surface soon. Those wanting to read more about the game can do so here.
