At one point in movie superhero time, having a female-led superhero film wasn’t exactly a thing that many execs wanted (case in point, look how long it took to get a Black Widow film). Then, with the rise of Wonder Woman, then Captain Marvel, suddenly they’re realizing that they can make serious money and be really quality films…which should never have been in doubt but I’ll move on. The point is, we’re getting more female-led superhero films in the future, as well as new TV series like Ms. Marvel. And then, there’s the upcoming Batgirl film starring Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon.
Many are excited for this because the last time Batgirl had a live-action appearance in costume…it was Batman & Robin, and that’s all we need to say about that. Grace has talked a lot about the film in terms of teaming up with J.K. Simmons (who is Commissioner Gordon once more), Michael Keaton and so on. But now, on her Twitter feed, she’s showed herself “teaming up” with the upcoming Supergirl from The Flash movie Sasha Calle.
Calle will play a multiversal version of Supergirl when she meets Barry Allen, and we don’t know too much about how far her role will go in the film. But, many are already hoping we get a spinoff movie featuring her, and if that means that we’ll potentially get a “World’s Finest” team-up between Batgirl and Supergirl, fans wouldn’t mind that at all. The actresses clearly like one another, so why not?
The only bad thing is that right now we know that the Batgirl movie is done, but we don’t have a release for it on HBO Max. Hopefully though, that’ll come soon, and hopefully we’ll get more about Calle’s debut as Supergirl soon enough. Fingers crossed for more news.
