Developer Mediatonic Games have announced that Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star, the follow up to last year’s Hatoful Boyfriend, will release next Tuesday, December 15. You may remember the original as an odd pigeon dating simulator. Holiday Star will follow the same formula, but with a holiday theme.
Published by Devolver Digital, the game will take players to new styled worlds, and let them meet interesting new chickadees. The developer says: “…find romance in the elegantly designed winter wonderlands. Dust the snow off your wings and take flight with familiar faces and new friends alike in extraordinary adventures hatched from the whimsical mind of the series creator Hato Moa.”
Mediatonic’s past projects include Amateur Surgeon and Foul Play. The original Hatoful Boyfriend was both lauded and discussed for its odd themes, tone, and content. Players took up the role of a human girl attending a high school made up entirely of talking birds. Gameplay involves dialogue trees and decisions that can alter the players’ relationships with other characters (who are birds). The game’s tone is noted for both being silly (once again, dating birds) and tragic.
Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star will be available on Steam, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita on Tuesday, December 15.
