Microsoft has announced a bevy of new features coming soon to Xbox Live. On top of an incoming on-demand TV service, Microsoft has also announced a new app to supplement the Xbox, appropriately named the 'Xbox Companion App.' The app is available to all Windows phones completely free of charge, and it allows players to find, control and learn about their Xbox content.
It's no Siri, but the Companion App has features that some people might find useful. The app grants you access to the Xbox Live Marketplace, lets you pull up a robust range of information for whatever content you may be watching, playing or listening to, and lastly, allows you to select and control content right from your phone.
All of these developments come together to fulfill what Microsoft sees as the three major entertainment pillars consumers regularly engage with: PC, phone and TV screens. Nonetheless the features and the interaction between phone and Xbox seem limited and not particularly handy. But hey, at least the app is free, eh?
