Rocksteady Officially Drops Multi-GPU Support For Batman: Arkham Knight

November 20, 2015 by Carlos Chism

The hits keep on coming for PC players.

A Warner Bros. representative has let players know that Batman: Arkham Knight will effectively never support multi-GPU setups. The representative announced this information while responding to concerned players on the Steam forums. The developer has been working with hardware manufacturers NVIDIA and AMD for months to rectify the poor multi-GPU performance in the game, but with little success. As the representative says:

“The result was that even the best case estimates for performance improvements turned out to be relatively small given the high risk of creating new issues for all players. As a result we’ve had to make the difficult decision to stop work on further multi-GPU support. We are disappointed that this was not practical and apologize to those who have been waiting for this feature.”

Batman: Arkham Knight launched disastrously on PC earlier this year, when players complained of bugs that either significantly impeded enjoyment of the game, or crashed it entirely. In response, Warner Bros. pulled the game from Steam, issued refunds to any players that wanted them, and set to work on improving the PC port's performance. The title rereleased on Steam at the end of last month, and while it is now for the most part playable, further analysis shows it is still poorly optimized and buggy. While multi-GPU support can be difficult to implement for any PC game, it looks as if this issue is even worse for Arkham Knight.

Batman: Arkham Knight is out now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. However, considering these issues, you may want to pick it up on console.
