Sega has revealed two Valkyria Chronicles games coming to the PlayStation 4 in Japan.
Valkyria Chronicles will get a remake on the console, simply renamed Valkyria Chronicles Remaster, coming to Japan on Febryary 10. The game, will, of course, get upgraded graphics, and will also have trophies and DLC.
Valkyria Chronicles Remaster will also come with a demo for the next game in series; Valkyria: Azure Revolution. Valkyria: Azure Revolution will have a new aesthetic, replacing CANVAS with a new Gouache Drawing Engine, that will make the game look like an oil painting come to life. Combat will now use a LeGION Battle system, which combines simulation with real time battle elements. Is it still a strategy shooter? It’s not clear as of yet. The screenshots Famitsu shared (which you can see below) show several party members attacking simultanenously.
Technically speaking, this will be the fourth game in the series, but considering it starts fresh with new c characters and elements, it may be a complete reboot. It also has a new developer in Media Vision, and a new staff, retaining only one person from the orginal; director Takeshi Ozawa.
The story also sounds a little familiar. The Rus Empire, dominating its neighbors thanks to its use of the mineral Ragnite, is opposed by a smaller neighbor, Jutland. You play Amleth, commanding officer of Jutland’s anti-Valkyria unit, facing Rus’ Valkyria soldier Brynhildr, in defense of Jutland’s princess, Ophelia.
