Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is a major step forward for the Dragon Ball series. Now getting the 3D treatment for the first time outside of video games, the look absolutely fits with the style of the show. Just as important, the movie is focusing on characters who have often been sidelined–Gohan and Piccolo. The one thing that fans aren’t exactly sure of is the name of the movie itself.
The title is an odd one. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero puts the ‘Supers’ right next to one another and typing that name without the colon will throw an error to your grammar checker. How is it that this name was approved at all?
Here’s a translation of the Toriyama interview included in the DBS: SH movie pamphlet (thanks to @DBSuperFrance for sharing!). Some of this Q&A already appeared on the film’s Twitter account, but it’s mostly new. Learn the unbelievably stupid reason behind the film’s title! (1/3) pic.twitter.com/RmLuogW9Mc

In Japan where the movie was just released with great success, a pamphlet was given out to fans in theaters featuring insight from series creator Akira Toriyama, who revealed that he didn’t know that the movie title would include Dragon Ball Super at first, thus adding Super Hero without knowing the truth. Deciding not to change it in the end, he was more than honest about admitting that this was his fault.
“I guess everyone thought I had done this on purpose, because nobody pointed it out to me,” Toriyama noted in the text, “So it’s my fault that ‘Super’ is so repetitive.” We forgive you, Toriyama, and it doesn’t sound too bad. Just don’t forget the colon.
No western release date for the film has been revealed.
