Ubisoft has announced its post-launch and micro transaction plans for Rainbow Six Siege on the company’s official blog. Maps and modes will be available for free, while new characters and weapon skins will be purchased with “Renown,” a currency earned in-game but also available to buy with real world money. R6 credits, which are also bought with real money, are used to buy premium weapon skins.
Ubisoft explained that nearly everything players do will net them renown. This includes winning or losing matches, kills, assists, revives, plating ranked matches, watching tutorials, or completing Daily Challenges. They further explained: "Killing teammates will negatively impact your Renown, however, so watch your fire. The developers estimate most players will earn around 1,000 Renown for each hour of gameplay."
Some premium weapon skins, described by Ubisoft as “purely cosmetic,” can only be purchased with R6 Credits, the currency only attainable through spending real world money. As the company explains, “R6 Credits are an optional premium currency that will be available at launch in packs of 600, 1200, 2670, 4920 or 7560. A pack of 600 R6 Credits will cost $4.99 USD, with larger bundles offering more Credits per dollar."
The company has also released a roadmap for the game, which is viewable below. The roadmap includes four content expansions for the game in 2016. Each expansion will include a new map and two operators armed with a unique gadget. New primary and secondary weapons will come with each content expansion.
Rainbow Six Siege will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on December 1.
