Square Enix has teased some details about NieR: Automata's plot in an outline. As previously reported, Paris Games Week has also brought us a trailer for the anticipated game (for more Paris Games Week news, check out our round-up).
The story is as follows: In the distant future, aliens invaded and humanity escaped to the moon. They plan to recapture the Earth by organizing a resistance army headed by an android soldier. That soldier's name is 2B. The team indicated that there are two, arguably three, protagonists and that the game would focus more on the androids and not so much the humans. Interestingly, director Taro Yoko and producer Yosuke Saito spoke vaguely about the androids' genders and were hesitant to describe 2B (pictured above) as a girl.
Thankfully, the game will not rely heavily on its predecessors' story because the developers wanted to be sure that those unfamiliar with that game's premise would still be able to enjoy NieR: Automata.
Although this update didn't reveal too much about a game we already knew little about, there will be another similar update in the spring. NieR: Automata is being developed exclusively for the PS4. There is no tentative release date or pricing information available yet.
