Square Enix Reveals NieR: Automata Gameplay In New Trailer

October 29, 2015 by Carlos Chism

You can now get a first look at the game in action.

Square Enix unveiled gameplay footage for its upcoming game NieR: Automata during a stage presentation at Paris Games Week. The game was named NieR New Project until the official title was announced recently. Producer Yosuke Saito, who worked on Dragon Quest X and the original NieR, showed off the gameplay trailer along with some screenshots. The trailer showcases the protagonist fighting “the machines”, the game’s main enemies.

“NIER struck a chord with many passionate gamers.  It was something so special that we felt compelled to heed the fans’ call for a follow-up,” said Saito. “To create the ultimate action-RPG, it dawned on me that a collaboration between PlatinumGames and SQUARE ENIX would be a dream come true.” said Saito.

The game follows Android “2B”, a member of an elite team of war androids called YoRHa Squad, developed by the human race to fight a mysterious invasion of machines that has taken over earth. At the beginning of the game, humans have taken refuge on the moon after being driven from the planet by the machines. They send androids to fight in their place, hoping to throw back the invasion and return home. The YoRHa squad is meant to break the deadlock between the androids and the machines, whose battles have ravaged the planet, leaving most of it a wasteland.

NieR: Automata is being developed by PlatinumGames, the same team behind titles like Bayonetta, MadWorld, and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The developer recently released Transformers: Devestation, and hopes to finish their Xbox One exclusive Scalebound for next year.

No release date for NieR: Automata has been announced, but it is only currently only known to be in development for PlayStation 4. The trailer reminds us that the game is a work in progress.
