It looks like Layers of Fear 3 has a name and could potentially be revealed later this week at Summer Game Fest. According to a couple of new teases over on Twitter, the game will be called Layers of Fears and should be released at some point in “early 2023.” That’s according to industry insider Tom Henderson, who retweeted a rather revealing post from the official Layers of Fear account earlier today.
The first tweet came from Layers of Fear developer Bloober Team, who have clearly been hard at work developing the latest entry into the horror adventure franchise. The official account tweeted a teaser image of what appears to be a ruined piece of artwork depicting a frightened face, along with the caption “Reach beneath the surface and uncover the source of your fears.”
Henderson then retweeted the original post with some additional information, revealing the name of the upcoming sequel as well as the projected release window.
Prior to this, Bloober Team also shared a short clip that complements their artwork-themed teaser. In this clip, fans are given a glimpse of an artist’s shaking hand as they explore a blank canvas, listen to a spooky narration and grip a paint-encrusted palette beside their workbench. The new game is being made in Unreal Engine 5, and from the short clips shown so far, it looks like another incredibly compelling entry to the series.
Given that Summer Game Fest is right around the corner on June 9th, many in the community wonder if we’ll be getting a reveal trailer or a confirmed release date for Layers of Fears at the showcase event. We’ll be keeping an eye on things ahead of Thursday’s event in case any further teasers drop in the meantime, but it looks like there might be some kind of update for fans of this unique psychological horror franchise.
