In a bit of a surprise move, Blizzard has launched its new free-to-play mobile entry into the Diablo series live in some areas of the US ahead of schedule. As reported in Forbes, Diablo Immortal is now ready to download and play in the US on iOS and Android devices. This is ahead of its planned 10 AM PDT and 1 PM EDT release times across the states. The PC version of the game will reportedly still launch tomorrow at 10 AM PDT.
Presumably, this has happened to avoid a backlog of server congestion later in the day, but either way, those in the US who have been eager to jump into the world of Diablo Immortal on their mobile devices can get started right now. The rest of the world will have to wait a bit longer, with the confirmed release times for the game across Europe, Asia and Australia listed as follows below.
Diablo Immortal is being released to widespread anticipation, however, the action RPG game won’t be allowed to launch in Belgium or the Netherlands due to controversy around its use of microtransactions and loot boxes. These countries have much stricter laws and regulations around the use of loot boxes in gaming, and with Blizzard unlikely to change things so late in the day, it seems that Dutch and Belgian gamers may just have to miss out on the game’s dark dungeon-crawling antics.
For the rest of the world, Sanctuary awaits later today. It’s clear that the hype over on social media is real amongst Diablo fans, many of whom have been waiting for a new entry into their beloved franchise since 2012’s Diablo 3. With Diablo 4 still being in development and likely a way off yet, fans will hopefully be able to satisfy the gaping Diablo-shaped void in their lives with a large dose of Diablo Immortal.
