Rise of Incarnates will no longer accept the purchase of in-game currency starting today and the game’s servers will go offline completely on Dec. 15, 2015, rendering the game unplayable just over five months after its launch, Bandai Namco announced today.
"We must regretfully inform all users of the closure of Rise of Incarnates," it said on the game's Steam page. "We offer our sincere thanks to everyone who has supported this game . We will be keeping the servers open until December 15, 2015, so please continue to enjoy Rise of Incarnates until the very end."
The developer notes that any IP, the game’s in-game currency that can be purchased with real-world money, remaining on a players account can and should be spent before the game goes offline on Dec. 15. Additionally, all characters in the free-to-play, 2v2, arena combat are now free of charge and available to all players to use.
Rise of Incarnates was announced by Bandai Namco last year and released this past July on PC. The gameplay revolved around 2v2 arena-based combat. Players could choose from various characters with names taken directly from mythological deities like Odin, Zeus, and Ra.
This is not the first of Bandai Namco’s foray into the free-to-play game market. In 2014, the publisher released Soulcalibur: Lost Swords on PlayStation 3 through the PlayStation Network. Lost Swords is based on Soulcalibur 5, but is strictly single-player with microtransactions, such as the ability to purchase the remove of the playtime limit. Like Rise of Incarnates, further support and development of Soulcalibur: Lost Swords will be ending on Nov. 30, 2015.
