Let’s talk about The Last of Us, shall we? This is a game that is hailed as one of the best ever made, and for good reason. Not only was it a title that featured “something new” in terms of its setting and the goal of the characters, the main two protagonists in Joel and Ellie were really well done. Both in how they were portrayed, and how their voice actors brought them to life. Add that to the compelling plot, fun gameplay, and stunning visuals (especially in its upgraded versions), and you can see why so many are fond of it.
The game got a sequel that was…a bit more divisive, but that didn’t stop people from wanting more, and that led to the creation of The Last of Us TV series, which is set to debut on HBO. Despite us getting a few teaser images, we know precious little about what the show will be like and just how much it’ll reasonably adapt the game’s source material.
Director Kantemir Balagov is the one who directed the pilot, and in an interview, he noted that at present the series is set to debut “Early Next Year”. Which, sadly, is not much of an update as many figured at best we’d get it later this year, if not early next.
But, they did say that they made sure to do all they could to make a quality pilot and show because the video game itself was “special” to them.
The problem with any video game adaptations is the fact that they often diverge from the game’s source material, or, they try and “improve it” in some way or make it “more appealing” to a certain audience. Hopefully, they don’t diverge too much because it’s honestly a plot that can be adapted easily enough.
