The Kickstarter campaign for Allison Road, a game much of the press dubbed the “spiritual successor” to Konami’s P.T. (this writer included), has officially been launched.
Developer Lilith is seeking £250,000 (or $388,281 USD) through the crowd-funding service and, with 29 days remaining, the campaign currently sits at £11,621 (or $440,381 USD) as of this writing.
With Allison Road, Lilith hopes to construct a first-person survival horror game with a strong narrative backbone.
“We have very fond memories playing games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill 2, and Dead Space,” the developer wrote on its Kickstarter page. “Slowly sneaking through the long, zombie- infested hallways just waiting for the Cerberus to burst through the window, James Sunderland’s perilous journey of self-discovery through Silent Hill in the search for his late wife, or Isaac Clarke’s nightmare trip through the dark corridors of the Ishimura.
“These days it seems that horror games are more about style over substance and little to no narrative. Whereas we are going to return to the roots of true psychological horror.”
Initially worked on by one person, Chris Kesler, for the first six months of its development, the Allison Road development team has grown to 10 people, which includes “industry veterans and life-long game enthusiasts” who have worked on projects like The Avengers, The Hobbit, Prometheus, and Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Father. In the Kickstarter video, Kesler mentions that one of the goals in creating this Kickstarter campaign is to hire more people.
There is no release date for Allison Road, but by backing the project at £15 or higher, backers will get a digital copy for PC (£20 for PS4/Xbox One). An even higher tier (£25) will grant backers access to a pre-release demo that is set within the Allison Road universe, but is not a part of the main narrative found within Allison Road.
