Gamers have had a bone to pick with EA and DICE’s upcoming game Star Wars Battlefront, when we were given the impression that the game would only feature peer-to-peer matchmaking and lack the option for dedicated servers.
Recently, DICE designer Jamie Keen confirmed with PlayStation LifeStyle that the game will feature dedicated servers. However, it's not really good news.
“We’ll still have dedicated servers”, he said. “Absolutely. It’s one of the hallmarks of making sure we deliver an unparalleled online service for the game.”
The inclusion of dedicated servers doesn’t mean that there will be a server browser, however, and given that the game will not be using the Battlelog service that powers the front-end of the company’s Battlefield series of games, it’s hard to say how gaming communities and clans will organize.
Community manager Matthew Everett confirmed earlier this month that the game would not offer a server browser, but will instead offer skill-based matchmaking. That’s a bummer.
Star Wars Battlefront will be out on November 17 for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
