Rick and Morty is by far one of the most popular animated series to come out in a long time. The irreverent show may have started out as a riff on the dynamic of a few characters from Back to the Future, but it then became something so much more. It went to a level that entranced, horrified, and mystified all that watched (or at least, most that watched it) and as a result, it’s going on and on…and on! Which brings us to today!
Why is that? Because, at the Warner Bros Discovery Upfronts, they revealed that a spinoff series is coming: Rick and Morty: The Anime!
If you think this sounds familiar, it’s because they’ve done shorts in anime-style before, but now, they’re being given a 10-episode order and it will be made by Takashi Sano. Who had this to say:
“The multiverse-straddling exploits of Rick and the gang pose challenges to the family bond, but they always rise to the occasion,” Sano shared in a new statement regarding the series order. “It’s such a life affirming sight, and Jerry is no exception. I am honored to have been given an opportunity to tell a new story about this amazing family. I hope you enjoy their adventures!”
So yeah, the adventures of this family aren’t ending anytime soon, and word from the writers even revealed that work on season EIGHT is happening, just in the writing phase to be clear, but that’s still a big deal!
The anime style will also work in their favor (especially with anime people working on it) because they’ll be able to go even bigger and bolder than before, all the while maintaining their style of comedy and how they love to break expectations.
So get ready, because when it comes…you might not be prepared for what you see.
