In an act that seems like professional suicide, FortressCraft creator Adam Sawkins openly criticized Minecraft, and derided its fans as the "Notch Defense Force." His words would have held more weight, had the criticism he had to share been legitimate, rather than shallow gripes about the game's price.
FortressCraft, which has ridden off Minecraft's popularity through sales on the Xbox Live Indie Game platform, calls criticism towards his own game "unfair" and blamed Minecraft players for its reputation as a "rip-off."
"The Notch Defense Force said things like 'you even stole the name,' but the actual gameplay is nothing like Minecraft," said Sawkins in an interview with IGN.
"Minecraft has been squeezed out of its market," said Sawkins, who claims that his own 3 dollar game offers more bang for the buck. "It might do well on the name alone, but if you want sexy graphics and shaders and the creative aspect, you have FortressCraft. If you want to fight monsters and share stuff with your friends, you have Total Miner."
"Nobody will pay for Minecraft when they can pay $3.00 for Total Miner or FortressCraft," added Sawkins while ignoring the incredible success of Minecraft, and sounding like he's playing rhythm and he's out of time.
And now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to go bang on the wall from dusk till dawn in my Minecraft pit.
