2K Sports shared a very special video to promote WWE 2K16.
The video recreates the end of King of The Ring 1996, where WWE 2K16 cover star Stone Cold Steve Austin faced Jake The Snake Roberts. This match, and particularly the promo that caps it off with Stone Cold and Dok Hendrix, is credited with launching Stone Cold’s career, as well as the Attitude Era.
So, let me explain a bit more about that history. The PG-13 WWF Superstars era had worn out its welcome, and Steve was languishing in the midcard as the Ringmaster. Fresh from ECW, Steve convinced management to let him change his gimmick, and very soon he adopted the Stone Cold persona.
Contrary to the still squeaky clean WWF Superstars, Stone Cold Steve Austin was severe, even vicious at times. His early gimmick set him in opposition vs Jake the Snake Roberts, who was declaring himself a born again Christian, even quoting John 3:16.
After defeating Jake with a Stunner, Steve gave the classic promo replacing John 3:16 with the catchphrase of a wrestling generation.
The trailer does a good job of recreating the opening moments of the match IRL, even cutting to some real life footage (will this be in the final product?). At the middle of it, we see the WWE 2K16 systems demonstrated, particularly pinfalls.
Without further ado, you can watch the video above.
WWE 2K16 will be released on October 27, 2015 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
