Destiny 2.0 Update Mandatory Even If You Don’t Buy The Taken King

August 28, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

As you might have guessed, whether you buy it or not, the update seems to have The Taken King.

Bungie has revealed that the Destiny 2.0 patch is mandatory to all players, whether they but The Taken King or not.

What this means is you need to accept and install the update to be able to keep playing it. The update is 18 GB on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and 10 GB on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with 20 GB required for the PlayStation 3 install. Of course, without saying so, it’s clear that The Taken King is bundled in the mandatory update.

Bungie also shared these updates:

A new incoming Strike, Dreadnaught, is a loot filled fortress. Bungie streamed Dreadnaught, and will be showing off Court of Oryx next. These and other missions will be coming out in the next few weeks.

Strikes, Nightfalls, and other missions are getting substantial tweaks when they come out in the future.

Strikes will be replayable and variable, with bosses that have less life and more interesting combat phases. There will also be Strike specific rewards.

Nightfalls will require level 40 and have 30 second time outs when you die. Wiping no longer returns Fireteams to Orbit.

Weekly Strikes will also require level 40, and Bungie has decided to remove weekly heroics. Insteadaccounts receive Legendary Marks for completing the first three Weekly Strikes. There is also no more cap on earning Legendary Marks, and Legendary Engrams will drop every time you clear a strike the 1st time.

Finally, Bungie addressed fans who bought extra content. If you bought the $ 20 upgrade for Year One Guardians to pick up the Emotes and Class Items from the Digital Collector’s Edition, that’s coming September 15. If you happened to buy the Digital Edition before the announcement, Bungie promises something extra as well.
