The Star Wars franchise has gotten a lot of good will back in the eyes of fans and critics thanks to the TV series they’ve been pushing. They’re bringing in new stories, but, they’re also diving into familiar faces and characters to flesh out the universe even more. And one of these “old friends” that we’re going to see soon is that of Obi-Wan Kenobi, whose miniseries is set to debut on Disney+ next month.
Needless to say, a LOT of people are excited about this, not the least of which is because of how the series will detail how Obi-Wan was between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.
One of the people he’ll meet is the Grand Inquisitor (a Jedi hunter) in the form of Rupert Friend, who had this to say about the show:
“If it’s possible to be any more excited than folks already are, I would be,” said Friend.” I think it’s is one of the most thrilling additions to the Star Wars canon. I think Ewan McGregor is doing things with that role that is a dream for fans of the original films. You know, we can’t obviously have Alec Guinness back, but I just think Ewan was absolutely born to play that part. And wonderful cameos from people I obviously can’t tell you, but Easter eggs galore.”
We already know that Darth Vader (via Hayden Christensen) will return, as well as Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, but who else might arrive that would be worthy of a cameo? There are a few possibilities, including that of Qui-Gon Jinn, who if you recall was going to teach Obi-Wan to be a Force Ghost. Or, it could be that we see the Clone Trooper Cody, who had a good relationship with Kenobi before Order 66 happened.
We’ll find out at least in part when the first two episodes drop on May 27th.
