EA and DICE have confirmed that the Battlefield 3 will begin on September 29, and will be open to all platforms that the game is slated for release—PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, providing prospective players a chance to give feedback before the game is launched.
The Battlefield 3 Beta will feature a single game mode—Rush—on the map Operation Métro, which takes place in Paris. According to the developers, the full version of the game will feature 5 different modes, to be played across 9 expansive maps.
On the PlayStation 3, the beta will appear automatically on the PlayStation Store. Likewise on the Xbox 360, gamers will be able to participate by downloading it from the Xbox Live Marketplace. PC gamers can join the beta by installing the Origin client. A notification will appear in Origin's demo page on the day of the beta.
The Battlefield 3 Beta will also come with the Battlelog built-in. Battlelog allows players to socialize, track stats, and plan games with others for free. Stats, medals, rewards and unlocks attained in the beta will not carry over to the final game.
DICE has posted additional Beta details, such as the minimum and recommended system requirements here.
In addition to the announcement, DICE has also linked a slightly older gameplay video which takes place on Operation Métro.
