Hello Games Insist New Project Isn’t A Sequel

April 14, 2022 by John McDonald

It isn’t what you think.

The co-founder and managing director of Hello Games Sean Murray wants to get one thing clear about the company’s ambitious new project, and it’s that this game is not, we repeat not, a sequel to No Man’s Sky. This mystery project is going to be huge in scale, especially for a small team of developers, and it’s not going to be related to the 2016 game.

Ever since there were whispers that Hello Games were beginning a new project, the gaming world started to wonder if it would be No Man’s Sky 2, because isn’t it about time that a sequel was made? It’s been 5 years already! In an interview with IGN, Murray spoke about the rumors and wanted to clear a few things up in the process, “It is similar to No Man’s Sky, it’s the kind of project that even if we had a thousand people working on it, it’d still seem impossible,” Murray explained. He went on to add, “No Man’s Sky is not being held back by this new project, which also means this project isn’t being slowed down by No Man’s Sky.” So, there we have it, folks, the two games are not related at all.

Now, this mystery project is exactly that, a mystery. Don’t expect Hello Games to keep going on about it either, they want to keep it a secret, for now at least. I’m not surprised he is keeping things so close to his chest because Murray did the opposite with No Man’s Sky, calling it unique, ambitious, and unlike anything you’ve seen before, and look how that game turned out when it was released. The game was slammed by critics and by gamers themselves, with Murray seemingly going into hiding because of it. That’s not to say the team hasn’t worked extremely hard to get the game back up to standard, and in the years that followed, the game obtained patch fix after patch fix and went on to be an award-winning game that was universally loved – you’ve got to love rags to riches stories.

This new game is still in early development so don’t be getting yourself worked up over it, it will be quite a while before this “ambitious project” will be hitting the stores.
