A fan who has an advance or preview copy of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain has revealed a surprise Easter Egg that is sure to drive fans nuts.
In this close up of Snake’s arm is the logo WISP. Seem innocuous to you? In fact, this is a reference to Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner.
In 2nd Runner, after you defeat Ardjet, by deleting and destroying the Viola AI, you obtain the Wisp. This weapon lets users grab objects from a distance. It then throws out three smaller bits which will latch on to the target, and finally return to the user.
Our source doesn’t seem to claim that Snake has all of this in his arm, but it’s a cool reference nonetheless. And of course, if Kojima added this reference into what may be his last Konami game, he may have dropped reference to his other games in it too.
What other games do you hope Kojima drops references to in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain? Policenauts? Boktai? Penguin Adventure? Tokimeki Memorial? All of them, perhaps? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will be released on September 1, 2015, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and on September 15, 2015, on Windows via Steam.
