Tom Cruise has set his sights on developing a sequel for Edge of Tomorrow, the sci-fi movie in which Tom Cruise's character lives, dies, and repeats the day all over again—it's a bit like Dark Souls, actually. The movie also starred Emily Blunt.
While attending the New York premiere for his latest movie, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Cruise fielded questions from the press, one of which asked him whether there was a possibility for a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow. Cruise said yes.
According to Cruise, he pitched the idea for a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow screenwriter and Rogue Nation director Christopher Liman and Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman.
"We were there one night and I was like, I’ve got an idea for it,” he said.
Cruise didn't spoil what his idea is, but says that he's definitely hyped to work on it.
“It could be so much fun,” he said. “Gotta get Emily. I was like Emily, please. She was like, ’give me another year, please.'”
Released in 2011, Edge of Tomorrow took $178m for Warner Bros. to develop and raked in $364m at the international box office. The movie raked in a further $24m in domestic video sales.
The movie itself was based on a Japanese manga called All You Need is Kill, which is also getting a sequel. It's unlikely that Cruise's sequel would be based on that manga, however.
