Horizon Zero Dawn lead character Aloy was inspired by Terminator's Sarah Connor, Ripley from the Alien movie series, and the wildling Ygritte from HBO's Game of Thrones, developer Guerrilla Games told Official PlayStation Magazine in the latest issue, as reported by GamesRadar.
“We felt we had quite an original composition and combination of elements with the robots and the nature, so we also felt like it needed an original and strong character to go with that,” game director Mathijs de Jonge commented.
“One of the directions we were very interested in was a character like Sarah Connor in Terminator, Ripley in Alien or, more recently, Ygritte from Game Of Thrones; very strong female characters. That’s where we started.”
Guerrilla always intended to create a woman protagonist for Horizon but Sony was worried about the impact of doing so on the game and conducted extensive market research.
Horizon Zero Dawn was announced at E3 and stars Aloy as a huntress exiled from her tribe and forced to survive in a wilderness controlled by dangerous machines.
