Despite countless positive reviews upon release earlier this month, Gran Turismo 7 has begun a notable freefall. Following a botched update last week leaving the game nearly unplayable for over 30 hours, the eighth mainline installment now has the worst user Metacritic score in series history, sitting at a painful 2.0. The new 1.07 update is the cause of most of these woes, with payouts for some races being dramatically nerfed. This is a hefty blow to a title already facing pushback for its use of microtransactions.
In response to this controversial update, some users have taken to developing a script allowing players to grind currency without ever playing the game. By using PlayStation’s Remote Play feature and a relatively simple script, it’s possible to force Gran Turismo 7 to run the same race over and over, resulting in millions of credits for minimal effort. One user claims to be making “15 million credits per day.” If you equate that to microtransactions, that would cost around $120.
The script is currently only compatible with Windows PCs running the PlayStation Remote Play app. This curious piece of information was first posted to the PSNProfiles forum by the user Septomor. So far, Sony hasn’t done anything to retaliate against players deciding to use this less-than-sportsmanlike hack.
The latest patch is certainly unpopular, but complaints about the cost of cars in the game have been raised since Gran Turismo 7‘s release. An earlier report by VGC claims that certain cars in the new game cost up to eight times what they cost in Gran Turismo Sport. The 1.07 update has cut payouts from some races by over half.
“I’ve never felt so robbed/betrayed in 32+ years of gaming,” said angry Reddit user OnlineGunDealer in a thread discussing the game’s recent fall from grace.
Gran Turismo 7 was released on March 4 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
