Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning may just be one of those great games that manages to fly under everyone's radar for some reason or another. It could be the game's generic sounding fantasy name that may spell its doom, or it could just be an issue of timing, especially since it's slated for a February 2012 release on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Potentially going up against the likes of Diablo III, in a time when all that Christmas money that gamers get is all but spent could put the game in a difficult position.
With that being said, I'm not going to ignore it, and EA's put up a number of incentives to give the game a fighting chance.
EA has since announced a variety of pre-order packages for the game, available at selected retailers (which have not yet been revealed at this point in time).
* The "Destinies Choice Pack" includes three different sets of armor, each tailored to a particular gameplay style.
* The "Fate-Touched Weapons Pack" contains a wide range of special weapons, including a dagger, charm, daggers, faeblades, greatsword, longbow, longsword, hammer, scepter, and staff. There's a good chance this pack will go to GameStop.
* Last, but not least is the "Ultimate Treasure Hunter Pack" which provides players with a dowsing rod, enabling them to discover potion reagents.
It's 38 Studios' first game, and it's potentially capable of spawning an entire franchise should it be a commercial success. The game's creators include R.A. Salvatore (Dungeons & Dragons), Todd McFarlane (Spawn), and Ken Rolston (Morrowind).
