There is now reason to believe that the pending Dragon Quest announcement next week is for Dragon Quest XI.
There was an announcement of the new Dragon Quest game coming July 28, this coming Tuesday. However, given the recent reveals of several Dragon Quest spinoff titles, it was not quite clear if this announcement would be for Dragon Quest XI.

But that is no longer in doubt. Wall Street Journal reporter Takashi Mochizuki has revealed he received a letter of invitation from Square Enix, which expressly describes it as “a new title from main Dragon Quest series for the first time in three years.”
There will also be more details for other Dragon Quest games, so we will probably see more about Dragon Quest Builders andDragon Quest Monsters Joker 3.
Now here’s the key thing. The invitation did not reveal what platforms this new Dragon Quest game would be coming too. Yuji Horii remarked about bringingDragon Quest games to PlayStation 4 before, so many fans are hoping it would be a return of the series to the house Sony built.
If you are a PlayStation 4 owner, however, don’t get too excited yet. Square Enix already brought Dragon Quest games to the console, in the form of Dragon Quest Heroes and the upcoming Dragon Quest Builders.
It does not seem likely that the new Dragon Quest is coming to Wii U. However, the franchise has continued to do well on Nintendo’s portables, and the same proved true when Dragon Quest X eventually became available on 3DS. So, the new Dragon Quest game is more likely to come to 3DS.
