Heroes of the Storm Welcomes The Skeleton King

July 22, 2015 by Vanessa Lopa

He’s going to haunt the battlefield forever.

The noble has fallen by his own captain’s hands, only to rise again as the Skeleton King. Heroes of the Storm brings King Leoric of Khanduras into the game, adding yet another formidable opponent to their roster.

King Leoric is not the first Diablo character to enter the game, but he’s no less intimidating. He will always be on the battlefield; even if you think you’ve struck him down, his ghost will remain on the battlefield until his health completely regenerates, thanks to his Undying trait. He can’t do any damage as a ghost, though he can slow enemies before popping right back to where his ghost is floating around. It’s both awesome and troublesome, considering that enemies can prepare for his resurrection in that spot and ambush him.

TheSkeletal Swing (Q) slows down enemies struck with it; Drain Hope (W) essentially sucks the life out of heroes and keeps Leoric alive. Should an enemy think they have a chance of escape, the Skeleton King’s Wraith Walk (E) should do the job; it will help him close in on an opponent by allowing him to leave his body behind for a short period.

The Skeleton King’s Heroics are Entomb and March of the Black King. Entomb will create an unpassable tomb, trapping his enemies so he can bash their head in. If you act fast, you can probably teleport out of there before he kills you. March of the Black King has Leoric walking along and casually swinging his mace, dealing plenty of damage and regaining health whenever he hits an enemy Hero. It’s a fairly effective AOE attack, good enough to send most enemies running.

Leoric’s abilities seem to tilt the battle in his favor, but one sloppy move could cost you and your teammates dearly. There are ways to counter his Heroics, and turn his skills against him.
