How big is Fallout 4’s scope? We may have gotten an idea thanks to a new interview – and a useful point of comparison.
Bethesda Softworks’ Todd Howard revealed in an interview that they had the voice actors record over 13,000 lines of dialogue in a span of two years. He also elaborated that much of the dialogue variation comes down to your choice of gender. They took pains to recreate how a man and woman would respond differently to the same situation. In fact, scenes play out completely differently from this context.
You may not expect this, but Xenoblade Chronicles X, a game expected to release within the same time frame as Fallout 4 in the US, is a useful point of comparison here. In an interview with the late NCL president Satoru Iwata, Xenoblade’s director Koh Kojima revealed that they recorded 11,000 lines of dialogue. As video games come and go, the two are closer to each other in this regard than most other games.
Bethesda won’t tell us how long Fallout 4 yet, but Kojima has also gone on record that Xenoblade Chronicles X will take at least 300 hours to beat. So, are you ready to believe that Fallout 4 is potentially a 300 hour game, at least for completists?
