Yesterday, the first trailer for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series came out, and it showed us a much more dour version of the beloved Jedi master as he was stuck on Tatooine having to silently watch over Luke Skywalker to ensure that nothing would happen to him. Naturally, things are going to be coming for Obi-Wan and as a result of that, we should expect this mini-series to have a lot of action, and callbacks to the prequels. But the looming thread, and looming threat, will always be that of Darth Vader.
Darth Vader was not seen in the trailer for the show, but we could hear his iconic breathing at the end of it. But now, we have gotten our first look at the character in the show and it’s…about what you would think. Just saying.
If you didn’t know, Hayden Christensen will be back in the black armor (as he was at the end of Revenge of the Sith) and he will be fighting Obi-Wan at some point. In fact, that was part of the show from the start:
“It was so important to have Hayden be a part of this project because he is such a massive part of that character,” writer Joby Harold said. “It was a priority to all of us that we did it with as much care as possible, so as to honor one of the greatest villains and antagonists in the history of entertainment.”
Indeed, Darth Vader is one of the most important Star Wars characters, and given his connection with Kenobi via the prequels, it’d be foolish to not have him involved at some point.
The only question is how will their rematch go. We know via A New Hope that after this series they don’t see each other again. So clearly something has to go down between them.
