Robert Peeler, Online Community Manager for the Metal Gear franchise, is doing what his job requires of him: managing the community. With Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain receiving a PC port, they’re trying to do right by the fans.
On the Steam Community forums, Peeler has put up a features and options feedback thread so that the development team can get a better grasp of what the community wants to see in the PC port. Fans have tossed in numerous suggestions and concerns, ranging from audio and visual controls to controller support. The devs were expecting feedback, and the community gave far more than they were expecting. Peeler responded by posting this on the thread (#1331):
“It's easy to forget what features people want in the middle of development.
Thank you so much for your feedback! We've received a lot more responses than we anticipated, by quite a large margin actually.
We're working hard on the PC version of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and truly appreciate your support and thoughts on how to make it better.
We've totaled and categorized the feedback given up to this point and are preparing some info for you that can hopefully explain our next steps and give an idea what we've been able to accomplish.
Only a fool trusts his life to a production schedule!
As we collect our thoughts, please know that while we won't be able to accomplish every request (there is quite a lot!), we are very grateful for all the feedback and will do our best to make the PC release a success!
What are we fighting for? If we make it through this, we'll tell you.”
It’s always great to see developers reach out to the community that they’re making these games for, and in a world full of shaky PC ports, this kind of interaction with the community means a lot. Fans are aware that not everything can be done, but they’d still really like to see developers try. Peeler’s response rings slightly non-committal with the mention of production schedules and withholding what they’re supposedly "fighting for," but it’s a step in the right direction.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is due out on September 1, 2015 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. The PC port will be released on September 15, 2015.
