Jump Magazine has revealed Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3, coming to the 3DS.
Details are sparse, but of course, the scan shows the new protagonist, as well as a new monster called Nochoura. Yuji Horii explained that it will have a high amount of content. This will not just be in the number of monsters and gameplay mechanics, abut also the new communication options, for online play.
Dragon Quest Monsters started in 1998 on the Game Boy Color. In general, this spinoff series copied the Pokemon RPG mold. Instead of the protagonist fighting enemies directly, he sent his monsters to fight his enemies’ monsters.
Dragon Quest Monsters Joker brought the series to 3D, changing the perspective from first person to third person. This also changed gameplay from randomly generating monsters, to enemies you can see on the field approaching you. The Joker games also added online play, implemented differently each time. So, safe to expect all of these returning, either built on top of or revised again for Dragon Quest Monsters Joker.
Lastly, this was not mentioned in the article, but it’s most likely Solitaire, AKA Ginny Rummy, will be returning, using one plot contrivance or another. Solitaire was Joker’s main rival in the original Dragon Quest Monsters Joker, and has some fun cameos in the 2nd game. Maybe they’ll explain away what happened between the two games that caused her from being demoted from commissioner to champion.
