EA DICE have confirmed that split screen multiplayer will not be available for Star Wars Battlefront on PC.
EA answered this as a community question in a recent post about the game. Split screen multiplayer will still be available for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but EA shared no rationale for this decision.
This may simply be a case of consumer data outranking consumer feedback, as it is less likely PC gamers will make use of split screen multiplayer. Gamers may not be aware that the feature could be available on PC. Alternately, it may be something DICE intends to add to the game later, but not upon launch.
If the latter is the case, however, DICE may want to reconsider their choice, if Resident Evil Revelations 2’s example is any indication. The game is already facing much skepticism over DICE’s self imposed limitations, such as the lack of space battles. EA and DICE have mostly played it cool with this skepticism, but it may eventually come to have real life consequences when it releases this holiday to an extremely competitive marketplace.
Star Wars Battlefront will be releasing on November 17 on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
