Katsuhiro Harada has shared a substantial update on Tekken X Street Fighter, including an explanation on why we haven’t seen much of it yet.
First off, regarding progress, they’re actually deep into the development process already. They decided on the roster long ago, and they’re already done with details like the polygon models, the movesets, and the systems.
Harada also revealed a dilemma he is currently facing with the game. Although Tekken X Street Fighter is a collaboration between Bandai Namco and Capcom, the two are once again competing for attention between fighting game fans as both Street Fighter 5 and Tekken 7 are pending release. Harada is particularly concerned about when they will be releasing Tekken X Street Fighter.
Based on these statements, Tekken X Street Fighter may be ready around the same time Street Fighter 5 is, March 2016, and Tekken 7 may also be coming to consoles within that time. However, he may be considering delaying Tekken X Street Fighter’s release to avoid competing with its parent games.
Fighting games are a growing genre again, so Harada will have to choose to release it with competition eventually. It would not be out of the question for a new Dead Or Alive game to come in 2016, and of course NetherRealm is also actively making games.
Harada could reassure fans by sharing pics or video of Tekken X Street Fighter, but he may be hesitant to do even that out of avoiding competition. Do you think Harada is being overly cautious, or is this the right decision to make? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
