Rooster Teeth's Achievement Hunter has set up a special episode, co-hosted by Burnie's 9-year-old son, to walk viewers through the new so-called Adventure Update for Minecraft.
The first thing that players of Minecraft will notice in the new 1.8 patch is an all new background. Gone is the dirt background, replaced by an animated—and presumably procedurally generated—blurred out fly-through of the game.
The new patch adds Creative Mode, which allows players to have access to every item right off the bat, without having to mine, craft or do any of the things typically required to build a full fledged town. Previously, players had to use the Too Many Items mod to gain instant access to items.
The biggest addition to Minecraft 1.8 is the addition of the new Survival mode forces players to hunt for food to stay alive or even build a farm to grow your own food, gain experience, and earn skills. The mode also adds an experience point system, which you can earn from killing monsters.
The game's new Survival mode populates the world with a bunch of new things, including NPC towns, and abandoned mine shafts where you can slake your thirst for adventure by delving beneath the earth. There is a host of new enemies to encounter, which include variations of existing creatures, and the mysterious Endermen.
Among some of the new additions to the game itself is Bonemeal, which allows you to supersize flora like mushrooms.
