Studio Wildcard and Epic Games are partnering up to bring players one of the first custom mod editors for ARK: Survival Evolved. They’re putting the full power of the Unreal Engine 4’s tools and development resources in the hands of the modding community.
This decision was not out of the blue, as many of the folks at Epic Games started out in a mod community. “[W]e’re grateful to see Studio Wildcard open up their creative work to a new generation of programmers, artists, and designers,” said Epic founder and CEO Tim Sweeney. ARK provides the perfect environment for modding with its wealth of beautiful environments and content to work with and build upon.
Players who have already purchased the open-world dinosaur survival game can already begin modding. They’ve put together a “How To Mod” to get you started, and there’s the Unreal Engine ARK Modding forum that you can participate in. Find content in the Unreal Engine Marketplace, or share your own work using Steam Workshop.
“As we’ve opened up the world of ARK to everyone, we've been seriously on the edge of our seats with anticipation. The amazing gameplay ideas lighting up the forum conversations can be turned into reality right away,” said Jesse Rapczak, Studio Wildcard co-founder and co-creative director. Do them proud and go wild with the UE4 tools that they’ve given you.
Epic Games has a Twitch livestream lined up for Thursday, July 9 at 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET, where they’ll be joined by some of the folks at Studio Wildcard to walk the community through the ARK modding process.
