Michael K. Williams, best known for his leading roles in The Wire and Boardwalk Empire, has been cast in New Regency's Assassin's Creed movie and will play a prominent character, Variety reports.
Williams' character is said to have "a major stake in the franchise" and the site further claims that New Regency and Assassin's Creed publisher Ubisoft are planning to make at least one additional movie based on the hit video game series. In the sequel, Williams' character will co-star alongside lead actor Michael Fassbender.
While neither Ubisoft nor New Regency have yet confirmed Williams' involvement, the actor appears to have done so through a series of retweets on his verified Twitter account.
Shooting begins on the Assassin's Creed movie in September, and is due to arrive in cinemas in December 2016. The movie is to be directed by Macbeth's Justic Kurzel and also stars Academy Award-winning actress Marion Cotillard.
Assassin's Creed Syndicate, the next game in the franchise, launches for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 23rd.
