Games publisher Curve Games has officially announced The Ascent is making its way to PS4 and PS5 next month. Preorders are now live for the co-op action shooter on PlayStation consoles. The cyberpunk-themed RPG will no longer be an Xbox exclusive, as has been the case since its launch in July 2021. While there is no official PlayStation trailer for the game just yet, check out the launch trailer below.
PS4 and PS5 players of The Ascent will be granted an “exclusive RPEG 33 Rocket Launcher with its unique blue laser targeting system!” According to developers, “The RPEG 33 is a unique energy-type Rocket Launcher. Energy-charged explosives have historically been too expensive to use in other than highly specific tactical gear. EightCo either didn’t care or figured out a cheaper way and are now churning them out like baubles.”
Fans have been expecting a PlayStation release for some time now, although Curve Games had yet to confirm anything. The Ascent was given a PlayStation rating last year from the US Entertainment Software Rating Board. It was also rated for classification for PS4 and PS5 in Taiwan, increasing gamer speculation for its PlayStation release.
In October of 2021, The Ascent developers Neon Giant shared they were “aware” of demand for a PS5 version of the game. As well as teased fans to “keep an eye” on social media for any PlayStation news. Meaning, the game’s PlayStation release was all but confirmed before today.
For those unfamiliar, The Ascent is a cyberpunk0themed RPG presented from an isometric view. It is a twin-stick shooter where players have the ability to aim at high and low enemy targets. The plot takes place in the futuristic dystopian world of Veles which is controlled but the megacorporation The Ascent Group.
The Ascent will officially launch on the PS4 and PS5 on March 24, 2022, and will retail for $24.99/£24.99. Although, PS Plus members who preorder the game are entitled to a 10% off discount.
