Bandai Namco have confirmed Charizard and Weavile as the latest playable characters joining the roster for Pokken Tournament, alongside the game’s launch. It will be out in Japanese arcades come July 16.
Charizard, of course, is one of the most iconic and popular Pokemon, being the evolution form of Charmander, one of the original three starter Pokemon from the Game Boy game. Charizard has figured prominently in all things Pokemon, including the main game series, the cartoons, trading card game, toys, etc.
For Pokken Tournament, Charizard will be able to Mega Evolve into its Mega Charizard X form. Now word if the Mega Charizard Y form will make it as well, but this is definitely going to be exciting as it is.
In any case, Charizard will definitely play differently in Pokken Tournament than it did in Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS. He has been designated as a Power Pokemon.
Weavile may not be as famous, but it’s certainly well-known among Pokemon fans in its own right. The sharp clawed weasel like Pokemon is a popular choice for antagonists, from Ash’s Diamond and Pearl rival Paul, to Team Galactic Boss Cyrus. Weavile will be a Special Pokemon.
That rounds up the initial playable roster to nine characters, namely, Lucario, Machamp, Blaziken, Suicune, Gardevoir, Pikachu, Gengar, Weavile, and Charizard.
In the same stream, Jirachi and Whimsicott were confirmed as non-playable support Pokemon.
