Splatoon’s New Tower Control Mode Arrives With The First Splatfest

July 1, 2015 by Vanessa Lopa

You should probably figure out how to use the tower to your team’s advantage.

Nintendo’s splashy shooter is getting a new mode in Ranked Battles just before  Splatfest. This new mode, called Tower Control, will be joining Splat Zones.

Splatoon’s new mode will involve having a player’s character clamber onto a floating tower that will enter the enemy base. The tower will start in a neutral spot in the middle of the map, so it’s fair game for anyone. It’s meant to assist your plans for world domination—er, map domination; Nintendo mentions that defending whoever’s on board the tower will increase your chances of winning, so it kind of boils down to how well you work with your team. Nintendo’s Treehouse did a nice little demo of the new mode, maybe you can pick up some tips here. Video starts at roughly 28 minutes in:

Splatoon was released last May and became such a hit that ridiculous things started happening. Keep in mind that the game’s not actually complete yet, and there’s plenty of stuff that’s just sitting on-disc. Tower Control mode will be added to Splatoon on the evening of July 1st. Europe’s Splatfest was pushed back a bit, and the US Splatfest is also scheduled for the 4th of July. Looks like it’ll be an explosively inky weekend.
