Square Enix, Eidos and Crystal Dynamics have shared a new 10 minute gameplay video for Rise of the Tomb Raider, called the Siberian Wilderness. To put it simply, the game looks impressive, and Microsoft has certainly nabbed themselves a hit.
The trailer sets up the stage for Lara to rough it out yet again, as she gets separated from her companions in a snowstorm. She has to set up her own basecamp out in the brutal Siberian cold, and much of the start of the video is just Lara fighting through the cold to make this happen.
Afterwards, she gets a rude awakening when a goon finds her basecamp, forcing her to take him out, and of course, find his mates so she can take their base out. However, at the end of it, her return to basecamp is rudely interrupted by the appearance of a bear. (As an aside, several subspecies of bears exist in the region, so it would be interesting if Square Enix identified which one is depicted here.)
Lara uses a pickaxe to defend herself and chase away from the bear, only to be thrown off some distance and bruise her arm. As she stumbles to get herself first aid, she finds where the rest of the bad guys have established their base in Siberia.
The video ends with a fierce final encounter with the bear and a discovery in his cave.
Rise of the Tomb Raider will be released on November 10 on Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
