Guerilla Games has confirmed with VideoGamer.com that the PlayStation 4-exclusive RPG Horizon: Zero Dawn is being developed on a modified version of the Killzone: Shadow Fall engine, and will run at 1080p/30fps.
Horizon takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where humans have gone back to more primitive ways, and the world has become overrun with machine-like animals called robos. Players will take on the role of Aloy, the female protagonist in order to develop skills and take down robos. The game’s developers are keeping mum on the story of Horizon, and the game will offer no tutorials, relying more on players' ability to study their surroundings and the robos' behavior.
The trailer that Sony presented for this new IP during their E3 press conference was packed with so much detail, it was truly a sight to behold. Guerilla Games’ art director Jan-Bart van Beek said of the project: “The Shadow Fall engine isn’t an open-world streaming world engine so for the last two years, a lot of technical effort has gone into actually being able to make it work like this.” The outcome of all their efforts is a stunning open world that players can really get into, explore, and make full use of.
Horizon: Zero Dawnwill come out in 2016 exclusively on PlayStation 4.
